There is no hierarchy between these two teams and both will be feeder teams for those players that will add further quality to the Ladies 1 team.

For the second year in a row WVC made the trip to Cardiff to compete in the Cardiff Open Indoor Tournament. As last year, WVC entered both a ladies' and men's team into the tournament. The Saturday saw mixed results for the two teams, with the Men's team finishing in the top half of their pool to put them into the cup competition on the Sunday and the ladies going on to compete in the plate. Both teams fared well in their respective competitions on the Sunday. The final results have not yet been published, although both teams looked to be finishing at least in the middle of their pool with some games still to be played.

The tournament was as incredibly well run as ever and enjoyed by all. WVC will definitely be back for next year's tournament!

A great night was had by all those that were present and was enjoyed particularly by new members to the club. Congratulations to the winning team!

WVC would like to thank all members and non-members that have attended training over the past 9 months.

The WVC membership has continued to grow, with each playing squad showing improvement throughout the season.

This season has seen men's 1 achieve a higher league position than this time 12 months ago, finishing second in Men's Division 1. Ladies 1 have shown that they are more than capable of playing a higher standard achieved through promotion to Ladies Division 1 12 months ago. A mid table finish and cup final has demonstraed their continued improvement. Men's 2 have also shown that have been able to play at a higher level, finishing in the top half of the table in Men's Division 2. Although finishing down the league, Ladies 2 have demonstrated a massive improvement on last year, registering their first set and match wins. There has also been great improvement in their play as both individuals and as a team. Lastly, Men's 3 have shown improvement, winning further matches and developing new members through links with Dudley College .

This Saturday, WVC Ladies 1 competed in the West Midlands Cup Final. This is the first time that the club have been represented in the final of this tournament. Their opposition Nuneaton proved very strong on the day, taking the cup 3-1.

Although a great success for the ladies, the shine was taken off the occasion by an injury to one of the club's players on the day. Until the injury occured Marlene was on fire and Nuneaton had no answer to either her hitting or blocking. Everyone at the club wishes her a speedy recovery.

The venue now features two courts, with one funded by WVC through a Volleyball England grant.

At the venue there are two viewing galleries where individuals can watch the sessions taking place. This would provide an insight into training, coaching and playing at the highest level, and a good opportunity for young volleyballers to watching a top level senior squad train. Unfortunately, todays Go Spike Event hosted by Wombourne Volleyball Club has had to be cancelled. The weather has beaten us. Although the rain may be stopping shortly, the conditions on the ground are not conducive to volleyball and the safety of all participants must come first. This is a very disappointing situation after the organisation that has taken place and this decision has not been taken lightly.

Wombourne Volleyball Club will endeavour to host the event at a later date and hopefully the weather will be with us!

Good luck to all of the other Go Spike Big Weekend events that are taking place today and lets hope that you have better luck than us!

20/8/2015 - GO SPIKE WITH WVC!!

On Bank Holiday Monday (31st August) Wombourne VC will be hosting a Volleyball England Go Spike Event at Himley Hall and Park, DY3 4DF. The event is aimed to give people an easily accessible opportunity to experience volleyball, for free!

A few key dates for the beginning of the new season. WVC will be heading back indoors from 11th August 2015. This is in part due to the ladies and men competing in the National Volleyball Cup with the men competing in the preliminary round on 5th September. It is also to give the regional teams longer to train before the local season begins and for new members to the club to impress before the league squads are selected in early September. Due to the unavailability of Dudley Evolve training will move back outdoors to Himley Hall Park on 18th August for one week.

Tuesday 11th August Ė 7PM - Recreational Training Session Ė 3 Hours
Tuesday 18th August Ė 7PM Ė Outdoor training at Himley Hall Park
Tuesday 25th August Ė 7PM Ladies Training / 8:30PM Menís Training

01/8/2015 - WVC GO NATIONAL!

After experiencing National Competition last year through entry into the National Volleyball Cup with Tamworth VC under the name of South Staffs Sabres, the 2015-16 season will see the club compete in the competition under its own name. WVC have entered teams into both the menís and ladies competitions and have been handed the following draws:

1st Round Ė vs City of Salford 2 Ė 11th October @ Home

Preliminary Round Ė vs Oxford Men Ė 5th September @ Home

As with the 2014-15 season, WVC will again be 5 teams into the West Midlands Volleyball League. Two ladies and 3 menís teams will compete in the local league. Following two promotions in the 2014-15 season WVC will be represented in 5 divisions of the menís and ladies leagues. Everyone is welcome to attend WVCís indoor and outdoor training sessions with indoor training sessions beginning on 11th August. The teams for the coming season will be selected based ability shown in training sessions. Each of the squads will have a maximum of 9 players to ensure adequate playing time for all. Teams will be selected early in September.

WVC made its yearly trip to the newly located Whitefield Volleyball tournament. As with the previous year, the club entered three teams into the tournament. Two menís teams were entered into the menís 3rd division and a ladies team entered into the ladies 2nd division. There were mixed successes for the teams entered. The ladies team gave valuable experience to some of the newer members of the ladies squads although the competition proved difficult with an excellent standard of volleyball in the ladies second division. The ladies team competed in the plate competition on the second day although exited during the quarter finals.

From the menís entries, one team succeeded in competing in the cup competition on the second day, while the other team competed in the plate competition. With tough opposition in the cup the team lost in the quarter finals and after playing for overall positions finished 6th. The Wombourne representation in the plate competition fared much better and finished the weekend as Division 3 Plate Winners. This is the 3rd time in 4 years that the team have been represented in this particular final.

The change of venue did not have an effect on the tournament and as with every year an excellent weekend was had by all.

The Sandwell Volleyball Tournament took place on Saturday 4th July. After the clubs recent success as being named Volleyball England's Club of the Year, WVC were invited to help open the new outdoor gym at Sandwell Valley Park alongside the Mayor. The club were honoured to be invited to do so and were the first to try out the excellent new facilities.

The club entered four mixed teams due to the absence of a Ladies' division. The teams had varied successes, with two teams progressing from their respective pools. After a long day of volleyball one of the WVC teams reached the final of the mixed division, but with time running out the trophy was shared between the two finalists.

As with every year, the tournament was very well organised and valuable experience of competitive volleyball was gained by some of the newer members of the club. Thank you to all who entered and to the organisers for a great day.
